Milia are tiny cysts filled with keratin which form just under the epidermis (the top layer of the skin). They are most commonly found around the eyes and nose but can occur on and around the genitals.

Whilst in babies and children they often spontaneously resolve, in adults they are unlikely to disappear and can be unsightly. Milia can be confused with comedones (whiteheads) which prompts attempts to squeeze them which can lead to soreness and scarring. Because of their pale colour, they may be especially noticeable on dark skin.
